Fiestas are local celebrations in which the Spanish are truly practiced and excel in hosting.
Spanish tradition sees the night of the 6th January as the Christmas exchange of gifts. Families, and in particular children meet in the main village square to await the Three Kings on their horse drawn carriage. Sweets are thrown by the Three Kings to the waiting crowds.
Celebrated form Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Grand processions leave the village churches and parade the streets with heavy statues of Christ on the cross and the Virgin Mary. The statues are carried by religious brotherhoods in elaborate costumes accompanied by music, drum beats, candles and incense. processions take place every evening in Torrox pueblo on Thursday, Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday. A fantastic celebration to see whether you are religious or not.
Celebrating the end of summer and the harvest. Two days are spent with family and friends usually in the 'campo' or countryside. Fireworks are a regular feature during the evenings.
Four days of music, dancing and Flamenco shows in the main square of Torrox pueblo. Numerous stalls and bars offer gifts and food and drink. In addition there is a fairground for children. This fiesta arguably the principle party weekend and usually starts around midday until the early hours of the morning. Car access to the village is restricted during this time.
Unique to Torrox pueblo the Fiesta de Migas celebrates a traditional dish (Migas) originally served to local farm workers. Migas, a tasty dish of breadcrumbs and garlic warmed over open fires is given away free along with local sweet wine and beers. The village square plays host to numerous stalls and the popularity of this fiesta sees the population swell to upto 40,000 on this single day!
